Avis Van Rental is proud to once again be partnering with the Old Mutual joBerg2c for the fourth consecutive year as a transport sponsor.
The Old Mutual joBerg2c is a gruelling bike stage race, filled with adventure, which sees participants riding for 900km through the country starting on 25 April in Heidelberg and ending off nine days later at the coast of Scottburgh.
As a transport sponsor, Avis Van Rental will be providing participants and organisers with trucks, bakkies, vans, fuel and truck drivers to ensure that the riders and organisers have a seamless race. The eight, 8 ton trucks, 4 ton trucks, fridge trucks, panel vans and bakkies will transport tents, mattresses, bags and other items to each of the nine race villages for the duration of the event.
Avis Van Rental has once again committed to sponsoring the television broadcast of the Old Mutual joBerg2c, bringing viewers at home spectacular daily highlights from 25 April to 3 May, on SuperSport 8.
There will be three teams riding the joBerg2c in the Avis Van Rental cycling gear. The corporate team consists of Shawn Mitchley and Marc Arenhold, who are no strangers to adventurous racing. Rob Dormehl and Alison Richardson will also be pulling out all the stops to secure a spot on the coveted podium of the mixed team category and lastly, development riders Tyronne White and Tyron Bird who will be competing for overall top positions.
Riders will also be able to relax and reminisce about the days’ challenges at The Avis Van Rental Chill Zone, a post-race watering hole which has proved to be popular amongst participants.
The Old Mutual joBerg2c race isn’t simply a bike stage race, the race also contributes to South Africa’s communities by empowering schools to raise money by working at the event, and for many it is their biggest fund raiser of the year. Riders have also played their part by raising funds that has resulted in four libraries being established in the rural communities of Frankfort, Winterton and Ixopo. This initiative was inspired by Nelson Mandela Day and the race route which runs through the heart of South Africa. A further two libraries will be built in 2014 with the money raised from riders through Nelson Mandela day and the event.
Leon Fourie, General Manager of Avis Van Rental says, “The joBerg2c is a prestigious mountain bike stage race that Avis Van Rental is proud to be associated with, particularly for the fact that the race embraces the communities of South Africa. We wish all riders and the organisers a successful race and event. ”
