About our chauffeurs

All our chauffeurs are hand picked for their driving ability, commitment to deliver a professional service and understanding of the Avis ‘way’.

The Avis Chauffeur Drive Brand Ambassadors are dressed in classic black suits and not the traditional Avis red uniforms.

Our chauffeurs have a driver’s license, a valid public driving permit, which is a legal requirement when transporting passengers, and are familiar with the areas in which they work.  They are required to complete an advanced driver training programme and undergo full medical tests.

Avis Chauffeur Drive chauffeurs have telephone contact with the Avis Luxury Collection Careline and can contact emergency services if required.

Our chauffeurs speak English and alternative languages available on request.

Passengers pick up and drop off

All passengers are met personally by their chauffeur, who will be holding a welcome board with the customer name on it.  If you do not want your name used on the sign to protect your identity, please provide us with a name that we should use on the sign and which you will respond to.

With airport collections, the chauffeur will wait as close to the baggage clearance doors as possible, unless otherwise arranged.  Hotel collections are made in the hotel foyer after calling the concierge to advise the customer.

Chauffeurs are on hand to assist customers with baggage handling (excluding electronic items such as laptops and cameras), and also to load and off load the vehicle.

How to maximize your experience

Additional services available exclusively to our Chauffeur Drive and Luxury Cars customers.  Enquire about these additional charges at time of reservation.  A 72-hour notification of these services is required.

Check-in assistance and airport terminal transfer service

Avis Chauffeur Drive will assist passengers with their check-in at any of the major airports in South Africa.  This service includes luggage handling to the check-in counter. 

We will also assist you with your luggage and foreign exchange requirements, from the domestic or international terminals to the required terminals, at any major airport within South Africa. 

Additional charges (if applicable)

Registered tour guide, one way fees, entrance fees, baby seats or booster seats,  excess baggage levy, luggage trailers, no shows and late cancellation fees

Any travel agent or company that has an authorised billing method approved by Avis Rent A Car.

Prepayments for Chauffeur Drive services can be effected through Central Reservations in South Africa.   

Note that strict procedures are in place and no voucher will be issued without receipt of clear proof of payment via fax or e-mail and Avis Head Office’s confirmation that payment shows on the statement.  Until a voucher has been issued, the prepayment booking has not been affected nor confirmed. No services will be done unless a voucher is presented at commencement of the service.
